This Saturday the 20th, we will be shooting at Big Springs. This will be the first SCTP event this calendar year. We will be shooting on field 8, you need to be there no later than 8:30.

I'll see you there!

We are now on daylight savings time and this means we now have three practice opportunities per week. Tuesday 4:15, Thursday 4:15 and Saturday at 9. Target requirements are now 100 per week per shooter. You can attend any or all of the practice sessions that you want to.

We had a great opening event for the calendar year at Big Springs last week. Squadding for this weekends SCTP shoot at Big Springs will be slightly different from last week due to SCTP divisions and scores that were posted in the last two registered shoots.

A text message will be sent to let everyone know what time to be at Big Springs this weekend.

According to the weather reports, we may get some good temps this weekend for a change. It may be wet but it is supposed to be warmer.

We have only three more team practices before our first team competition at Big Springs.

Make good use of them...

We are entering into crunch time for our team. This is the time of year where your performance in practice determines where you are in squads. After we get into regular monthly shoots, your performance in competition and practice attendance will determine where you are squadded for the Tennessee State Championship and the Grand American.

Now is the time to rededicate yourself to coming to practice, participating in team activities and becoming the best you can be on this team.

Our team always gives back to the community that supports us. In the past we have sponsored National Shooting Sports Foundation events called Step Outside where participants could shoot pistols, rifles, shotguns and bows. All free and all with qualified instructors.

This year we are sponsoring a National Rifle Association event called, "Women On Target". This event is for women (and girls) to experience the shooting sports in an environment that encourages safe, fun participation with firearms and bows.

I look forward to this season and the possibilities for this team.

I'll see you at practice,

Coach Loveless

We had a great turnout for an 18 degree day at P&T last week at the monthly ATA shoot. I was pleased to see our team members come out and tough it out in extreme conditions! I was also pleased to see the support of parents who also came out and enjoyed the day with our team family.

Better weather is on tap for this weekend and I expect to see a full team at practice. If not, I want to know why not. If we the coaches are there, I expect you to be there as well or, I want to know why you are choosing not to participate.

No matter what the temperature or weather conditions, we always have a great time. I enjoy seeing and coaching each of you and I want you to be able to get the best results you can in your shooting.

Our season is about to go into full swing and we need to get on track and get serious in our endeavor.

I'll see you at practice!

Happy New Year!

This is going to be a great year for this team! For the first time, we have seniors on the team that will be in their fourth year with the team! We have experienced team members on board and we have experienced team members that have joined the team after being on the middle school teams. All of this means that we should be able to handle match pressure well and move forward to the finer points of trap shooting.

Yes, we have been having practice even in the cold. Last week set a new record for the team on a practice day, 18 degrees. We had several members come out, shoot their 50 and leave. Why do I do this? It develops mental toughness, it strengthens concentration in adverse conditions and it makes one appreciate the good weather days even more.

Many on this team remember how many events we have shot in the rain and won the event. Several teams that we compete against won't shoot in the rain, much less the cold! When Coffee County shows up, we will shoot. The only thing that keeps our guns cold is lightening.

Any gun fit issues that you may have need to be addressed now. If you are changing guns, it needs to be now. It will take many rounds to get used to a new fit or a new gun.

I look forward to seeing all of you at practice.

Congratulations to Tyler Marcrom for winning the Singles Champion trophy at the P&T shoot last Saturday. Tyler and Justin Lowe from Webb were tied after the event was completed and had to shoot off for the tie breaker. After one of the best shoot offs I've ever seen, Tyler won with a 98! Tyler displayed mental toughness and  perseverance that it takes to be a champion.

We had nearly 40 entries in the singles event! That is a great turn out!

I don't recall telling the team they could skip this event unexcused. All P&T shoots are events that team members are expected to attend. Although the team is not required to wear their uniform and I treat this like an ATA event for any shooter, the team is expected to attend.

Team members are also expected to show the coaches a copy of their grades every time a grade report or any kind comes out. To date, alomost half of the team has not shown their report to either coach. All of those who have not shown their report now have one strike on their record.

This team functions year 'round. Don't get lax during the winter months. Almost half of the team isn't getting the minimum of 50 targets in per week. There are no make ups. One can not shoot 100 a week and think they can skip the next week. The requirement is 50 per week unless the coaches don't hold practice which will happen for the first time Christmas week. We will not have practice on the 26th.

A few students have called to ask to be excused because they were taking the ACT test or because they were having a medical procedure done that prevented them from practicing. They do get excused and it is noted on their practice record.

Don't get lazy, don't think that your attendance or lack of attendance doesn't go unnoticed. Let's maintain the high standard that makes this team unique!

As always, if you want to discuss this, call me or see me at practice.

The fund raiser was a great success! So many people did so much! Be sure to look at the pictures on the first page of this website. One can see that the turkey fryers were on the job well before daylight! I for one can vouch that my turkey was very good!

Thanks to everyone who helped, worked, shot, bought, ate or all of the above for making this event a success! Our newest team members and their families really pitched in! Each of them asked what they could do to help, I really like that attitude! Our seasoned veteran team members and their families showed their can do attitude and continued willingness to contribute as well. As head coach, it is great to see the support given to our team. We now have funds that can be used to benefit this team in the coming year!

We will have practice each Saturday this month except Dec. 26th.

For now, mid week practice is over due to the time change coming up Sunday Nov. 1, 2009. Practice will be Saturday's beginning at 9 and ending at 11. Do not wait until 11 to show up, be there before that time.

Yesterday, I discussed the aspects of mental training to take your scores to the next level and keep them there. For those of you who missed it, I'll be glad to share this information with you at your next practice session.

I am looking at a few shoots for us to attend as a team during the fall and winter months. Whenever these are decided on, I will post them here and have Mr. Reagan send a text message out to all team members.

Now is the time of year to work on getting the fundamentals in trap shooting down pat. We will clean up little and large problems so that come next spring, they won't stand in your way of shooting your best!

We have our most important fund raiser of the year coming up in Nov. It will be Saturday, Nov. 21st. Try to plan around this date so that you can be available to help out. More to come on this later...

What a great shoot we had last Saturday at Big Springs! In tough conditions our team managed to win two trophies! The first squad won by one target! Never take a target for granted, never give up if you've missed a few. One never knows when a single target is the margin between first and second place!

Our JV squad placed third their first time shooting together for the high school! Great job! I've implemented a few changes in your shooting and you've all adapted well! Things will continue to improve for you if you stay the course that Coach Craig and I have laid out for you.

Our second V squad didn't fare so well. Lot's of work to be done there. Remember, during the fall and very early spring, you are shooting for position on a competition squad at practice and competition. These squads will change slightly at every shoot.

Get your targets in and strive for excellence every time you take the line.

I'll see you at practice!

5 Stand Shoot at the fall fundraiser 11-21-2009

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

All Trap team members are required to provide a copy of their Progress Reports and Report Cards to Coach Craig Hafer within three (3) days after they have been received.  IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH INDIVIDUAL TEAM MEMBER TO PROVIDE COACH HAFER WITH A COPY OF HIS/HER GRADES!!!!  This is for each and every grading period.  If a team member fails to turn in a progress report or report card, that member will not be allowed to practice or participate in competitions until the progress report or report card has been turned in.

The grading policy is as follows; Team members are required to maintain an overall average of 75 or better for all of their classes.  Penalties for dropping below 75 in your overall average are as follows:

1st offense - banned from competition until the next grading period

2nd offense - banned from competition and practice until the next grading period

3rd offense - REMOVAL FROM THE TRAP TEAM!

If during the next grading period the team member has raised his/her grade above the required 75, he/she will be fully reinstated with the team and may once again fully participate in competitions and practices.

If a shooter practices any other time at Highland Rim Shooters Club or P & T Shooting, the shooter is responsible for paying H.R.S.C. or P & T Shooting for their targets.  Clay Pay is only used for official team practices.  An official practice is a practice that is announced, scheduled or planned in advance by me and conducted by Craig Hafer or myself.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Coach Loveless
